Do you need worn teeth treatment?

Teeth change with age and wear, altering the appearance of your smile and bite.

Check your symptoms to learn if worn teeth treatment is right for you:

  • Front teeth becoming shorter
  • Flat biting edges
  • Chipped edges
  • Uneven tooth lengths
  • Yellow teeth as enamel becomes thinner
  • Transparent edges
  • Rounded tooth shapes
  • Increased sensitivity

Worn teeth become shorter, flatter and smoother, while eroded teeth become smooth, transparent, rounded, yellow and increasingly sensitive. Book a consultation today to assess your teeth and learn the best next step.

How do we treat worn teeth?

Treatment depends on how much the tooth has worn. Here are our recommendations:

Bonding

From £255 per tooth

For mild tooth wear, we can add tooth-coloured composite to worn edges to rebuild lost length and restore shape. It’s a conservative solution, as we remove little or no additional tooth structure, and we can complete the treatment in a single visit.

Composite veneers

From £350 per tooth

Where a larger section of the front tooth needs rebuilding, composite veneers can cover more of its visible surface to restore length, shape, colour, proportion and symmetry. Composite veneers are a conservative, same-day treatment.

Porcelain veneers

From £795 per tooth

Porcelain veneers are often the appropriate option when front teeth require a more substantial, longer-term transformation. They restore lost length and change tooth shape, taking around three appointments over three weeks to complete, but offer better durability.

Onlays/Crowns

From £695
Restorative options for damaged, worn or weakened teeth. Onlays rebuild the affected area of back teeth while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible, whereas crowns provide greater protection by covering the entire tooth when more extensive restoration is needed.

I’ve had regular hygienist appointments at Smiles Studio over the last 7 years and with Juhi for the past 3. She is extremely good and long may she continue her work at the practice, for as long as I require treatment.

I’ve been having treatment done and today I was in for my Implant operation. I was incredibly nervous but I have to say it was fine it was actually less uncomfortable than some of the other work I have had done. Dr Mahesh Nagpal was great and put me at ease with what was about to happen, and making sure I was ok. Overall so far the treatment and communication I’ve had done, and the results I’ve seen are fantastic. I would highly recommend Smiles Dental surgery all the staff have been great.

Treating the cause matters

Whether the cause is age, attrition, acid erosion, thinning enamel, tooth grinding or a combination of factors, it’s important to address it to ensure successful, long-lasting solutions.

Adding cosmetic material without a diagnosis means the restorations may still be exposed to the pressure that caused the problem in the first place.

For example, rebuilding teeth worn down by nightly grinding can end up in the same situation if it doesn’t protect them from the same forces in the future. Similarly, if frequent acid exposure is causing erosion, controlling that exposure matters before and after restorative treatment.

Identifying the issue is the first step in any restoration at The Smiles Studio. From there, we can restore the damaged teeth and set you up with aftercare protocols, like a protective nightguard, to protect your restoration long-term. Whether it’s lengthening a few teeth or rebuilding a whole worn smile, we’ve got you covered.

Worn and eroded teeth FAQs

Can worn teeth be repaired?

Yes. Depending on severity, they can often be rebuilt with composite, veneers, onlays or crowns.

Grinding, clenching and other forms of tooth wear can gradually flatten and shorten the teeth.

Thinning enamel can make the edges appear more translucent. Acid erosion is one potential cause.

As enamel thins, more of the naturally yellower dentine underneath may become visible.

Grinding places additional stress on veneers, bonding and natural teeth. A protective mouthguard may therefore be recommended.

Lost enamel does not simply regrow once substantial tooth structure has been removed. Early erosion may be managed preventively, while more significant loss may require restorative treatment.

Composite is more conservative and easier to repair. Porcelain can provide greater stain resistance and a longer-term aesthetic restoration. The severity and location of the wear determine what’s most appropriate.

Identify and control the cause as part of treatment planning before permanently restoring the teeth.

  • Composite bonding: from £255
  • Onlays: from £695
  • Crowns: from £700
  • Porcelain veneers: from £795
