What is Same Day Implants?

What is Same Day Implants?

Same-day implants involve placing dental implants and attaching prosthetic teeth in a single appointment, allowing you to walk out with a complete smile on the same day. This procedure requires meticulous planning, precise implant placement, and the custom creation of prosthetics, ensuring you enjoy the immediate benefits of a full set of teeth.

Dr. Mahesh Nagpal and his team specialise in tooth replacement and restoration, including dental implant placement for missing teeth. Whether you need to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or an entire arch, we offer tailored solutions to meet your needs.

If the implant is stable enough during placement, we can often restore your smile the same day with a temporary tooth or bridge. While this procedure may not be suitable for every patient or implant site, it is routinely performed and provides an excellent option for many.

Procedure for
Same Day Tooth Replacement?

Once the dental implants are securely positioned within the jawbone, the following steps are taken, depending on the extent of tooth replacement required:

1

For a Single Missing Tooth

We will fit a customised temporary acrylic crown that closely matches the colour and shape of your natural teeth. This interim solution ensures that you never have to face the embarrassment of a missing tooth. Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone, we will replace the temporary crown with a final porcelain crown, providing a durable and natural-looking result.

2

For a Full Arch of Teeth

When an entire upper or lower set of teeth needs to be replaced, we create and fit a bespoke full-arch bridge. This bridge, which substitutes all the teeth in one go, is attached to several implants, depending on their stability. The temporary bridge is securely screwed in place and can be brushed just like your natural teeth.

After a few months, when the implants have fully fused with the jawbone, we will remove the temporary bridge and replace it with a permanent, final bridge. This definitive bridge is also securely attached to the implants and can only be removed by a dentist, ensuring a robust and stable solution.

FAQs on Same Day Implants

1. Are There Any Limitations with Teeth in a Day?

While “Teeth in a Day” offers a quick cosmetic solution, it’s important to treat the temporary teeth with care. The dental implants need time to fully heal and integrate with the bone. Initially, the teeth placed on these implants serve mainly aesthetic purposes rather than functional ones. As they aren’t yet fully anchored in the bone, it’s crucial to avoid normal biting, pulling, or chewing forces. This is particularly vital for single-tooth replacements, where we often position the temporary tooth slightly out of the biting plane and recommend chewing on the opposite side. For full-arch replacements, even if the implants have achieved good stability, we advise sticking to softer foods at first. Although these implants can support more than a single tooth, it’s best to exercise caution to ensure proper healing and integration.

The success of immediate loading for an implant depends significantly on the torque at which it is inserted into the bone. Ideally, the insertion torque should be around 35 Newton centimetres (Ncm) to provide adequate stability for attaching a tooth straight away. If the torque isn’t sufficient, we won’t place a tooth immediately, as this increases the risk of implant failure. In such cases, we offer a temporary solution, like a removable appliance. This might include a clear retainer with an attached false tooth or a partial denture, ensuring you don’t have a visible gap while the implant stabilises.

If the implant doesn’t achieve the necessary torque, we won’t place an immediate tooth, as doing so would significantly raise the risk of failure. However, if the tooth being replaced is visible within your smile line, we can address this cosmetically by providing a removable temporary tooth. This could be in the form of a clear retainer with a false tooth that fits over your other teeth, or a removable partial denture or flipper, which you can wear until the implant is stable enough to support a permanent tooth.
