What is Same Day Implants?

What are Same Day Implants?

Same day implants involve the placement of dental implants and the attachment of prosthetic teeth in a single appointment, allowing patients to leave with a fully restored smile on the same day. This procedure requires careful planning, precise implant positioning, and the custom fabrication of prosthetics, ensuring immediate benefits of a complete set of teeth.

Dr. Mahesh Nagpal and his associates are experienced in tooth replacement and restoration. This includes dental implant placement for missing teeth and the creation of various tooth replacement solutions, whether for a single tooth, multiple teeth, or a full set.

If the implant achieves sufficient stability during placement, we can often restore your smile on the same day with a temporary tooth or bridge. While not suitable for every patient or tooth site, this procedure is performed routinely, offering a viable option for many individuals.

Procedure for
Same Day Tooth Replacement?

Once the dental implants are securely positioned in the jawbone, we proceed with the following steps based on the extent of tooth replacement needed:

1

For a single missing tooth

We will attach a customised temporary acrylic crown that closely matches the colour and shape of your natural teeth. This interim solution ensures you never have to experience the embarrassment of a missing tooth. After the implant has fully bonded with the bone, we will replace the temporary crown with a final porcelain crown for a long-lasting and natural-looking result.

2

For a full arch of teeth

In cases where an entire upper or lower set of teeth needs replacement, we create and affix a custom full-arch bridge. This bridge, which substitutes all the teeth in one go, is connected to several implants, depending on their stability. The temporary bridge is securely screwed in and can be brushed just like your natural teeth.

After the passage of a few months, once the implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, we will remove the temporary bridge and replace it with a definitive, final bridge. This permanent bridge is also securely attached to the implants and can only be removed by a dentist, ensuring a robust and stable solution.

FAQs on Same Day Implants

1. Are There Any Limitations with Teeth in a Day?

While “Teeth in a Day” provides a rapid cosmetic solution, it’s essential to handle the temporary teeth with care. The dental implants require time to fully heal and integrate with the bone. Initially, the teeth placed on these implants are primarily for aesthetic purposes rather than full function. They’re not yet firmly anchored in the bone, so avoiding normal biting, pulling, or chewing forces is crucial. This is especially important for single-tooth replacements, where we often leave the temporary tooth just slightly out of the biting plane and recommend chewing on the opposite side. For full-arch replacements where all implants have achieved solid stability, you’ll still be advised to stick to softer foods initially. Although these can handle more than a single tooth, it’s best to be cautious to ensure proper healing and integration.

The torque at which an implant is inserted into the bone is a critical factor for its immediate loading success. The insertion torque, measured in Newton centimetres (Ncm), ideally needs to be around 35 Ncm to provide sufficient stability for attaching a tooth right away. If the torque isn’t high enough, we won’t place a tooth immediately as it increases the risk of implant failure. In such cases, we provide a temporary solution like a removable appliance. This could be a clear retainer with an attached false tooth or a partial denture, ensuring that you don’t have a visible gap while the implant stabilises.

If there is not enough torque at the time the implant goes in, we will not place an immediate tooth on it because doing so would greatly increase the risk of failure. However, when this happens, we can instead make a removeable temporary tooth. So, if the tooth being replaced is visible within the smile line and you don’t want the space to be visible, we can be sure to address that cosmetically by making either a clear retainer with a false tooth in it that fits over your other teeth or by making a removable partial denture or flipper to wear until the implant is stable enough to support a tooth.
