Replace A Single Missing Tooth With Dental Implant

Replace A Single Missing Tooth With Dental Implant

For those who have lost or are about to lose a single tooth, a Single Dental Implant Restoration offers the perfect remedy. When it comes to replacing a missing tooth, numerous treatment options are available, but dental implants provide a permanent and hassle-free solution. The implant is fixed into the bone and has a bespoke crown attached to it, providing a natural looking smile and allowing you to eat and drink whatever you like. Dental implants are perfect for single tooth replacement, maintaining gum health and preserving the integrity of adjacent teeth.

What to Expect
During the Single Tooth Implant Process?

Modern dental implant technology allows most single tooth implant patients, even those with a failing tooth to have an implant and temporary crown the same day. This scenario creates a seamless treatment with the patient usually leaving with a much better tooth than the original. After a few weeks, a permanent implant crown can be delivered to replace the temporary crown. The permanent crown is either screw or cement retained. Screw retention is the preferred method because it is more hygienic.

Other Treatment options
for replacing a single tooth:

Several treatment options are available for replacing a single tooth. Let’s explore the advantages and disadvantages of each option in detail:

1

Single Tooth Dental Implant and Crown

A dental implant is an excellent option. It involves placing an artificial root into the jawbone, onto which a custom crown is attached. This is the standard for single tooth replacement, offering a permanent solution without harming gum health or needing to drill surrounding teeth. Unlike natural teeth, implant crowns do not decay and rarely need replacement. However, brushing is essential for implant health.

2

Traditional 3 - Tooth Bridge

This method involves bridging a false tooth, known as a “pontic”, between two crowns that are cemented onto the adjacent teeth. The main drawback of this option is that the adjacent teeth must be filed down to accommodate the crowns. Moreover, traditional bridges often need replacing after several years, making it a less permanent solution compared to implants.

3

Cantilever Bridge

Similar to a traditional bridge, but with only one supporting tooth, a cantilever bridge consists of a pontic attached to a single adjacent tooth. Due to being anchored on only one side, this type of bridge is prone to complications such as fracturing the supporting tooth or becoming loose due to the uneven pressure during chewing.

4

Maryland Bridge

Typically used for replacing a single front tooth, a Maryland bridge features a false tooth with small “wing-like” extensions on each side, which are bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth. This method is considered more conservative because it doesn’t require the adjacent teeth to be ground down, unlike traditional bridges. However, Maryland bridges are less durable or can sometimes need recementing back in.

5

Removable Partial Denture

A partial denture that replaces a single missing tooth can be prone to move around unlike an implant. They serve as a temporary solution while waiting for a more permanent replacement.
