What are All-on-4 Dental Implants?
What are All-on-4 Dental Implants?
All-on-4 dental implants offer a comprehensive solution for replacing a full arch of missing teeth.
1
These implants are termed “fixed” as they are permanently secured and can only be removed by a dentist, not by the patient. Also referred to as Fixed Implant Bridges, they deliver a reliable and enduring option for tooth replacement.
2
Advancements in dental technology have enabled us to attach resilient prosthetic dentures made from Zirconia or Titanium to these implants. This progress has greatly enhanced patient comfort and satisfaction.
Tooth loss can occur due to various factors, including gum disease, tooth decay, trauma, or other dental problems. Historically, traditional dentures depended on minimal suction to stay in place, often requiring adhesive pastes or creams for added stability. However, these methods often resulted in discomfort and instability, leading to considerable frustration and pain.

Patient Testimonial
If you've experienced tooth loss, The Smiles Studio offers professional dental implant solutions tailored to your needs.
Tooth loss can significantly affect both your comfort and self-esteem. The two main options for replacing all your missing teeth are removable dentures and fixed dentures, each offering distinct advantages and limitations. Understanding these differences is crucial to selecting the best treatment for your personal needs.
All-on-4 dental implants, have emerged as the leading choice globally for individuals missing all their teeth.
Types of All-on-4 Implants
1
Full Fixed Bridge Supported On 4 Implants
This type of denture is securely anchored by four dental implants placed in either the upper or lower jaw. Designed to fit snugly against the gums, it can be maintained with regular brushing and the use of floss threaders to clean between the denture and gums.
2
Full Fixed Bridge Supported On 6 Implants
Supported by six implants in the upper or lower jaw, this denture offers enhanced strength and stability. Removable only by a dentist, it can be customised to match the colour of your natural teeth for a seamless and natural look.

Wide Range of Material Choices for Full Fixed Bridges
At The Smiles Studio, we offer a range of materials for full fixed bridges. You can choose from metal with acrylic for strength and affordability, or opt for Zirconia and ceramic for superior aesthetics and durability. We also provide milled metal bars combined with Zirconia and ceramic for a balance of support and natural appearance. For a contemporary choice, consider PEEK (polyether ether ketone) frameworks with individual ceramic crowns. Each material ensures functionality and a natural-looking smile.
Advantages and Disadvantages
of
All-On-4 Implants
Advantages
- Stability and Functionality: All-on-4 implants offer exceptional stability, allowing you to speak, chew, and bite with confidence, without the risk of shifting or loosening.
- Improved Aesthetics: Tailored to blend seamlessly with the colour and shape of your natural teeth, All-on-4 implants deliver a more natural appearance than removable dentures.
- Stain Resistance: These implants are less susceptible to staining compared to removable acrylic dentures, maintaining their appearance over time.
- Reduced Bone Shrinkage: They help preserve your facial structure and prevent the sunken look often associated with removable dentures.
- Enhanced Comfort: Unlike removable dentures, All-on-4 implants do not rest on the gums, resulting in greater comfort.
- No More Sticky Denture Adhesive: Since they are fixed in place, you won't need sticky denture adhesives to keep them secure.
- No Sore Spots: They eliminate the discomfort and sore areas often associated with traditional dentures, offering a more natural and comfortable experience.
- Secure and Durable: All-on-4 implants remain firmly in place and are less prone to damage or loss of teeth compared to conventional dentures.
- Longevity: Designed to be a long-term solution, All-on-4 implants can last a lifetime with proper care, unlike removable dentures which may need frequent replacements or adjustments.
Disdvantages
- Higher Cost: All-on-4 dental implants come with a higher price tag compared to traditional removable dentures.
- Surgical Procedure Required: The placement of All-on-4 implants necessitates a surgical procedure, which may be a consideration for some patients.
Advantages and Disadvantages
of
Removable Dentures
Advantages
- Lower Cost: Removable dentures are typically more affordable than fixed implant options.
- No Surgical Procedure: They can be fitted without the need for surgical intervention, making them a less invasive option.
Disadvantages
- Stability Concerns: Removable dentures often shift or become loose while eating or speaking, which can cause discomfort and embarrassment.
- Gum and Bone Loss: Over time, removable dentures can contribute to the deterioration of gum tissue and underlying bone, potentially altering your facial structure and requiring frequent adjustments or replacements.
- Reduced Chewing Efficiency: The lack of stability can hinder effective chewing, which might limit your diet and lead to digestive problems.
- Comfort Issues: Since removable dentures rest directly on the gums, they can be less comfortable than fixed options.
- Need for Adhesives: Many users need adhesives to keep dentures in place, especially if they experience dry mouth. Adhesives can be messy and inconvenient.
- Sore Spots: The rubbing of dentures against the gums can cause sore spots, which may require temporary removal, frequent adjustments, or additional dental visits.
- Fit Changes Over Time: As the jawbone gradually shrinks after tooth loss, dentures may become loose and require frequent adjustments or replacements.
- Removal for Cleaning: Many find it inconvenient to have to remove dentures for cleaning.
- Food Trapping: Food can become trapped beneath removable dentures, necessitating removal and cleaning after meals to maintain comfort.
- Shorter Lifespan: Removable dentures typically have a shorter lifespan compared to fixed solutions and tend to wear out more quickly.
- Easier Staining: The materials used in removable dentures are more susceptible to discolouration, making them easier to stain compared to All-on-4 dental implants.

Pat
The best thing I ever did for myself was to make the decision to have my dental implants 6 years ago. Mahesh Nagpal changed my smile and I will forever be grateful. With 5 implants and excellent ongoing care and advice I regained my smile, confidence and optimism.
Roger
Fear of the dentist? I went through the apprehension and stress for absolutely no reason. After local anesthetic, I felt absolutely no pain. After surgery,I didn’t take a single painkiller. Not because I’m brave, I just had no pain. Amazing. I’m only sorry I suffered the stupid dentures for so long instead of going to the Smile Studio sooner.
Miss S
I had 2 implants placed to secure my dentures firmly in place and this has worked out really well. I would not hesitate to recommend your services, both for technical excellence and your kind and patient care. For the first time I can say it was a pleasure to visit the Dentist.

FAQs About All-on-4 Dental Implants
1. Why Choose All-on-4 Implants Over Removable Dentures?
The key advantage is stability. All-on-4 implants provide a secure and comfortable fit, allowing you to eat and speak with confidence, without the worry of them shifting or becoming loose over time. Unlike removable dentures, All-on-4 implants conduct heat more effectively, enhancing your ability to sense the temperature of your food.
These implants closely replicate the look and function of natural teeth, making daily care simple. You can brush them just like your own teeth and use water flossers or interdental brushes to clean underneath, much like with traditional bridgework. Many people find All-on-4 implants significantly boost their confidence, as they offer a natural appearance and eliminate common dental concerns, allowing for a worry-free smile.
2. How Do I Know If Full Mouth Implants Are Right for Me?
Determining whether full mouth implants are suitable for you begins with a consultation with one of our experienced dentists. We will thoroughly assess your oral health and help you weigh the benefits and considerations specific to your situation.
3. Am I a Suitable Candidate for Full Mouth Dental Implants?
If you have missing teeth or suffer from significant tooth decay, we invite you to a complimentary consultation. During this visit, we’ll explore all available treatment options and guide you in selecting the best solution for your oral health and overall well-being.
4. What Is the Treatment Process?
1) Initial Assessment: During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your oral health, take X-rays, and discuss the feasibility of the procedure. We consider factors such as bone density, general health, and oral hygiene. Occasionally, a CT scan may be required. We’ll review various treatment options and help you decide on the approach that best meets your individual needs and preferences.
2) Oral Records: We’ll take photos, measure your jaw, and gather other necessary data to plan the creation of your temporary prosthesis. At this stage, we’ll also address any questions you may have, provide the required prescriptions, and schedule your surgery.
3) Implant Placement: If necessary, extractions will be carried out, and implants will be placed on the same day when feasible (possible in most cases). You will receive temporary teeth during this procedure, which is typically performed using local anesthesia and/or sedation. The implants then require a few months to heal and bond with the bone, during which time you will wear your temporary teeth.
4) Abutment Placement: Abutments, which connect the implant to the bridge or denture, may be placed during the surgery. If the implants are not yet strong enough to support biting forces, the abutments may be placed a few months later, at a follow-up appointment. This step determines whether your temporary teeth will be fixed or removable.
5) Healing Period: Once osseointegration (the bonding of the implant with the bone) is complete and the implants are securely integrated into the jawbone, final impressions are taken. We will then start fabricating your final prosthesis. At this stage, your input on smile design—including tooth shape, shade, and any desired customisations—will be incorporated to create your new smile. The case is sent to the lab, and your temporary teeth will be adjusted as needed until the final prosthesis is ready.
6) Final Teeth Placement: Thanks to our advanced technology and extensive experience, most patients receive their implants and temporary teeth in just one appointment. In a matter of hours, existing teeth are removed, implants are placed, and temporary teeth are fitted—all in the same visit. For patients who have endured missing, painful, or unsightly teeth for many years, the moment they first see their perfect smile in the mirror is truly transformative and joyous.
All dental implants require a healing period before the permanent zirconia or titanium/acrylic teeth can be made. The temporary teeth not only prevent you from going without teeth during this time but also serve as a guide for designing your permanent teeth. By evaluating what you like and dislike about the temporaries, we can fine-tune the final prosthesis to meet your highest expectations.
5. How Do I Maintain Them?
As your All-on-4 dental implants are securely attached to your jawbone, they cannot be removed at home; only your dentist can detach them for maintenance or repairs if needed. To keep them clean, you should brush them with a soft toothbrush, just as you would your natural teeth. Additionally, use water flossers, TePes, Waterpiks, and other specialised cleaning tools to clean underneath the bridge. Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are essential to maintain the health and longevity of your implants.
6. How Much Does It Cost?
Please refer to our Fees page to ascertain the cost of Fixed Dentures.
7. How Do I Care for My All-on-4 Implants?
Apart from homecare (see number 5), your dentist can remove the prosthesis for professional cleaning or maintenance if needed. It’s important to keep up with routine dental check-ups and cleanings to maintain their condition.
