Single implant treatment

Single dental implants offer a fixed solution to tooth loss that never slips, moves, or falls out of place, giving you complete peace of mind compared to alternative prosthetics like partial dentures or bridges.

They use tiny titanium posts that are placed into your jawbone to provide a strong, stable and reliable foundation for your fake tooth. This means we don’t just replace the tooth, but the root, supporting the underlying bone and facial structures long-term.

Are you and dental implants the perfect match?

Single implants will likely be the right treatment to replace your individual tooth loss if:

To qualify for single-implant treatment, patients will require sufficient bone in their jaw for the implant to bond. This is why a prior consultation is important to determine where the implant is positioned and whether you’ll be ready for the procedure immediately. Guide to single implants

How long does a single dental implant last?

Single dental implants can last decades. The titanium post can last 20 years or more (sometimes even a lifetime), but the dental crown might require replacement due to wear over time.

Using a local anaesthetic or sedation, the procedure is generally painless; however, some discomfort may be felt for a few days after the procedure, which can be easily managed with over-the-counter medications such as paracetamol. Aftercare instructions will be given following your placement appointment.

Typically, 8-12 weeks from implant placement to final crown, allowing time for essential healing, where the implant fuses with the bone.

Most patients are suitable. You’ll need good oral health, adequate bone, and no uncontrolled medical conditions to immediately qualify.

Bone grafting or other techniques can often build up the area, making implants possible again.

Your single implant treatment is completed with a dental crown, which is custom-made to match your surrounding teeth in both shape and colour.

Once healed, you can bite and chew as normal with no restrictions.

  • Dental Bridge: Involves bridging a false tooth, known as a “pontic”, between two crowns that are cemented onto the adjacent teeth. The main drawback of this option is that the adjacent teeth must be filed down to accommodate the crowns. Also not as long-lasting.
  • Cantilever Bridge: Similar to a traditional bridge, but with only one supporting tooth, a cantilever bridge consists of a pontic attached to a single adjacent tooth. Because it is anchored on only one side, this type of bridge is prone to complications such as fracturing.
  • Maryland Bridge: Typically used to replace a single front tooth, a Maryland bridge features a false tooth with small “wing-like” extensions on each side that are bonded to the backs of the adjacent teeth. However, Maryland bridges are less durable and may require recementing.
  • Partial Denture: A partial denture replaces a single missing tooth and may move around.

A dental implant is an excellent option. It is the standard for single-tooth replacement, offering a permanent solution without harming gum health or drilling into surrounding teeth. Unlike natural teeth, implant crowns do not decay but may require replacement due to wear.
