What can porcelain veneers improve?
Porcelain veneers are highly versatile and can correct several smile problems all at once.
Stained or discoloured teeth
Deeply discoloured teeth that don’t respond well to whitening can be covered with porcelain matched to your desired shade.
Chipped teeth
Veneers can restore lost shape from visible chipping and jagged tooth edges, creating a smoother, more even line.
Worn or short teeth
Grinding, acid erosion and natural wear can make front teeth look shorter or uneven. Porcelain veneers can change the tooth’s length, proportions and overall balance.
Uneven teeth
Differences in tooth size, shape and position can make a smile look untidy even when the teeth are otherwise healthy.
Gaps between teeth
Porcelain veneers can visually close small spaces by altering the width and proportions of teeth.
Mildly crooked teeth
In some mild cases, veneers can create a straighter-looking smile without orthodontics. In more severe cases of misalignment, we may recommend treatments like Invisalign first.
See the results before treatment begins
Changing the appearance of several of your visible teeth can be a scary step. That’s why we don’t wait for the first time you see your new smile when it’s bonded in place. At The Smiles Studio, Dr Jayesh Nagpal carefully plans your veneers using digital smile design and works closely with dental technicians to create a wax-up and temporary mock-ups for you to preview the results.
Digital smile design allows you to see:
- Tooth length and width
- Overall shape and symmetry
- Tooth positioning and colour
- How the new smile works with your face
- How your bite feels
You can then make any changes or alterations before moving on to the final porcelain.
Minimal preparation, maximum natural tooth preserved
Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers require a little bit of preparation on the front surface of the tooth so the veneer sits naturally without looking thick or bulky. In most cases, we only need to remove up to 0.5mm of enamel to make room. That doesn’t mean filing every tooth down.
Dr Jayesh Nagpal’s experience and approach focus on preserving as much healthy natural enamel and tooth structure as clinically possible. In some carefully selected cases, very little preparation may be required; using particular brands or materials of veneer, we can avoid the preparation process entirely.
Porcelain veneer costs
| Number of veneers | Cost | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| 1 porcelain veneer | £750 | £16.26 pm |
| 2 porcelain veneers | £1,500 | £32.52 per month |
| 4 porcelain veneers | £3,000 | £65.05 per month |
| 6 porcelain veneers | £4,500 | £97.58 per month |
| 8 porcelain veneers | £6,000 | £130.11 per month |
How many veneers do you need?
You don’t automatically need veneers on every visible tooth. The right number depends on how many teeth show when you smile and which teeth actually need changing. Six veneers typically cover the visible portion of your smile, or eight if your smile is wider. A free consultation can assess how many you need and whether other teeth can be slightly corrected with bonding, for example.
During planning, we’ll look at:
- Your smile width
- How many teeth show when you smile
- Which teeth concern you
- Existing tooth colour
- Tooth symmetry
- Whether whitening could reduce the number of veneers needed
- Whether bonding can be used on some teeth instead
Porcelain veneer process
Porcelain veneers can usually be completed in 3 appointments, including your consultation, with the application taking only a day. Composite veneers are one-day treatments.
- Cosmetic consultation & smile planning: Dr Nagpal examines your smile and discusses your goals. We'll assess whether porcelain veneers are appropriate or whether another option, such as whitening, bonding, or Invisalign, would preserve more natural tooth structure.
- Design & preview your smile: We plan your new tooth shapes and work with our dental technicians to create a wax-up. We can then transfer a temporary mock-up into your mouth so you can preview your proposed smile and approve the design.
- Prepare your teeth: Once you're happy with the planned result, we prepare your teeth as conservatively as possible. Only the amount of tooth structure required for the planned veneer is removed.
- Digital impressions & temporary veneers: We take detailed records of your prepared teeth, so your final porcelain veneers can be individually manufactured (takes a few weeks). Temporary restorations may be provided while your final veneers are being created.
- Fit your porcelain veneers Once your veneers return from the dental laboratory, we'll check their shape, shade, fit and bite. When both you and Dr Nagpal are happy, we securely bond them to your teeth.

- Combining veneers with other treatments where appropriate
- Making sure function and bite are considered alongside aesthetics

Porcelain veneer FAQs
How much are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers at The Smiles Studio cost from £750 per tooth or £16.26 per month, with finance available to spread the cost.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are a long-term cosmetic restoration, typically lasting up to 20 years. Their lifespan depends on factors including oral hygiene, your bite, tooth grinding and how well they are maintained.
Do porcelain veneers stain?
Porcelain is highly resistant to staining compared with composite resin and natural enamel,
Do you shave your teeth down for veneers?
Some enamel usually needs to be removed for porcelain veneers (around 0.5mm), but the amount varies considerably between patients. At The Smiles Studio, Dr Jayesh Nagpal takes a minimally invasive approach, aiming to preserve as much healthy natural tooth structure as possible.
Are porcelain veneers permanent?
Porcelain veneers are considered an irreversible treatment when natural enamel has been removed because that tooth will continue to require a veneer or another restoration in the future.
Can I see what my veneers will look like first?
Yes. We can create a wax-up and temporary mock-up that lets you assess the proposed size, shape, and position of your new teeth before final treatment.
Can porcelain veneers fix crooked teeth?
Veneers can create a straighter appearance in selected cases involving mild unevenness. If teeth are significantly crooked, crowded or protruding, orthodontic treatment may be a more conservative first step because moving the teeth can reduce the amount of preparation required.
Can veneers close gaps?
Yes. Small gaps can often be closed by carefully changing the width and shape of neighbouring teeth. Larger spaces may be better treated with orthodontics or a combination of orthodontic and cosmetic treatment.
What's the difference between a veneer and a crown?
A veneer mainly covers the front surface of a tooth and is generally used to improve its appearance. A crown covers much more, or all, of the visible tooth and may be preferable where a tooth is heavily filled, weakened, or significantly damaged.
Are porcelain veneers painful?
We use local anaesthetic when preparing the teeth, so you should remain comfortable during the procedure. Some temporary sensitivity may occur after the tooth is prepared.
