Why accuracy matters in implant dentistry
For dental implants that last decades, they must be positioned and restored with great care and thorough pre-planning, which is the difference you can expect from an implantologist like Dr Nagpal, who has been placing dental implants since the 1990s.
When full-mouth restorations are supported by several implants, even very small differences in the recorded position or angle of the implant can affect how accurately your final bridge fits, which can result in discomfort, delays, additional adjustments and increased stress on the implants.
By using TUPEL 3D, Dr Nagpal can obtain highly precise implant-position data that’s incorporated into your treatment plan and digital workflows from an early stage, helping us to plan your restoration around the actual position of the implants and allowing us to identify and be ahead of potential complications before final teeth are made
Complex cases made simpler
When it comes to complex cases, the position of the implants, the available bone, your bite and the final appearance of the teeth and design must be considered at once and accurate scanning allows these factors to be assessed together. In addition, the TUPEL 3D scanner allows us to anticipate certain difficulties and communicate with the laboratory to reduce any uncertainty.
The TUPEL 3D can be particularly helpful in advanced or complex implant treatment, including:
- Full-arch dental implant cases
- Multiple adjacent implants
- Implant-supported bridges
- Immediate-load implant treatment
- Cases involving angled implants
- Cases with limited bone availability
- Treatments requiring close coordination with the dental laboratory

Precision from initial scan to full smile
At your very first dental implant consultation with Dr Nagpal, he’ll assess the condition of your mouth, the available bone and the proposed position of your final teeth, using digital scans and three-dimensional imaging to build a detailed picture of your anatomy. This allows us to plan:
- The most appropriate implant positions
- The angle and depth of implant placement
- The number of implants required
- The design of the final restoration
- The relationship between the implants and the patient’s bite
- Access for cleaning and long-term maintenance
- Potential anatomical or restorative challenges
The TUPEL 3D scan will accurately record the implants once they have been placed to ensure the restorative phase follows the initial digital plan as closely as possible, making the next stage of treatment more predictable.
How TUPEL 3D improves treatment
- Precise implant-position recording: The scanner records the position and angulation of each implant marker. This gives the laboratory accurate digital data from which to design the implant-supported teeth.
- More efficient appointments: The scanning process is quick and provides immediate feedback, making it faster and more comfortable for patients.
- Better coordination with the lab: Accurate implant data helps the technician design the restoration around the precise position of the implants, reducing the need for adjustments.
- Short scanning appointments: Capturing the implant positions usually takes only a short amount of time.
- More predictable treatment: Accurate digital information helps the clinical and laboratory teams plan the restoration carefully before it is manufactured.
Tupel 3D Implant Scanner FAQs
Is TUPEL 3D the same as an intraoral scanner?
No. An intraoral scanner records the surfaces of the teeth and gums. TUPEL 3D is designed specifically to record the position and angle of dental implants.
Is the scan uncomfortable?
The scan is generally straightforward and does not involve a large impression tray. Small markers are temporarily attached to the implant components before the scanner records their positions.
How long does the scan take?
The implant-position scan itself is usually completed quickly, although the overall appointment may take longer because the components need to be fitted, checked and removed.
Can it be used for a single implant?
It can record implant positions, but its benefits are often most significant in cases involving several implants, implant bridges or full-arch restorations.
Why is it particularly useful for full-arch treatment?
A full-arch bridge must connect accurately to several implants across the jaw. TUPEL 3D records the relationship between those implants, helping the laboratory design the restoration from precise digital information.
Will every implant patient need TUPEL 3D scanning?
Not necessarily. We select the most appropriate workflow for each patient. TUPEL 3D is especially useful in multi-implant, full-arch and more complex restorative cases.
